Heart Flame (Melissa Blincoe) | Book Review #11

[ Dimension Jumpers #1 ]

I usually don’t hesitate when Melissa asks me to ARC a new book release of hers, and I didn’t because I’ve enjoyed each one so far (in one way or another.) Well, that wasn’t exactly the case with this one. Let’s dive into my review and my explanation on why…

Book: Heart Flame (Dimension Jumpers #1) by Melissa Blincoe

15 parts, 169 pgs.

Started: March 15, 2022

Finished: March 24, 2022

The Description

A Sinister Dragon Queen and an orb that can let you travel between dimensions. What could go wrong?

Drakion just wants to jump into a different dimension and live out the rest of his days in peace without the tyrannical ruling of the Dragon Queen. Falling out of the sky and running into his mate wasn't part of that plan. On top of everything, she's of a different species. She calls herself a human, and her dimension is beyond strange. When a single touch from her triggers the mating frenzy, he tries desperately to ignore the tempting female.

But when her life is threatened, he can no longer deny what's in front of him.

The reason his second dormant heart was set aflame. She is his Heart Flame.

The Review

I was intrigued at the beginning of this book, but it quickly fizzled out. Me, having read the first book in her Tyrannadon Mates series, I couldn’t help but quickly pick out the similarities in both Drakion (from this book) and King Rexxor (from King’s Mate.)

Both these men (dragon/dinosaur) were struck by tragedy and had their mate and “hatchling” taken from them. So, they’ve sworn off companionship seek to live out their days alone… Then along comes a human.

Despite their likeness, I pressed on. Drakion and Alex were both problematic for me. I couldn’t feel or relate to either one of them because of the lack of detail and rush in dialogue. This was also the case with Alex’s friends.

Right when I started to feel comfortable in this book and really give it chance, I was tackled by the introduction of yet another mythic being, a vampire. Personally, since the uproar of popularity in vampires in various media, I thought this addition was overrated and didn’t pull me back into a story I was already fading out of.

Final Thoughts

I couldn’t really develop a deep connection with this book or the characters in the way that I did with the Tyrannadon Mates, which remains to be my favorite in Melissa’s collection.

Rating and Recommendation

3 out of 5 stars

I’m always excited to read books by Melissa Blincoe. While I wasn’t thoroughly impressed with this book, I will press on and read the next two books in this series when they’re released, hoping that the storyline improves and veers away from the world she’s created previously.

I recommend this book to those who have not yet read Melissa’s Tyrannadon Mates series. It makes for a good introduction to her writings.
